Cucurbita maxima
This beautiful, fairytale pumpkin originates from France and is also know as Rouge Vif D'Etampes. The deep, bright orange/red skin holds a beautifully colored rich and tasty orange flesh. It has a flattened shape with very well pronounced lobes which give this pumpkin its unique character. Growth is vigorous and fruit is set quite early, making this a winner for a shorter growing season. The dense flesh cooks up well and does not go watery, making for a good puree for the freezer. Roasting brings out the sweet intense flavor.
