Black Eye Beans

Vigna unguiculata

 A sub-species of cow peas, Black Eye Beans are also known as the Black Eyed Bean, Goat Pea or Black Eyed Pea. The black spot on the pale bean looks like an eye, hence the name. These can be harvested young and eaten as green beans, or left to dry on the plant and used in any dish that requires dried beans. Heat loving and drought tolerant but unfortunately susceptible to Root-knot nematodes.
