Another African favorite, the Sausage Tree is well loved by man for it's unusual and beautifully scented flowers, as well as animals of all shapes and sizes for it leaves and fruit.

The fruit is poisonous without treatment, and a traditional honey laced beer is made from the fermented fruits. The trees can become superb specimen tree reaching heights of 60' in locations that are conducive to their growth (Zone 10+)

If you are looking at planting on of these trees make sure you site it well as the falling fruits can injure people or damage vehicles.

This tree will make an outstanding bonsai.

Germination: Plant seed with just the tip of the seed exposed in pure river sand or similar. Cover the seed with a fine layer of compost to help trap moisture.

Bottom heat by way of a heating pad will greatly assist with germination. Keep moist, but not wet. Typical germination is around 25-30 days.
